Recyclable innovation helps add to composting bottom line
Sold on the virtues of composting, farmers hoping to raise their bottom line further should consider a relatively new innovation that provides an economical alternative to standard under-roof composting systems.
Fleece and polypropylene fabric covers are made in easy to handle widths and are lightweight. The fabric covers help:
keep the sun off windrows;
maintain constant temperature and moisture control;
provide free air movement;
minimize nutrient leaching.
Under normal conditions the covers usually last three to five years. They are also cost effective and recyclable.
